PURPOSES OF PRACTICUM

SEA TEACHER EXCHANGE PROGRAM of the SEAMEO catalyzes the mobility of a college student to become an independent person, to travel on their own, learn for every aspect in the world, to practice their communication skills so they could express themselves by using English Language, to become a globally competitive and good citizens in the world, and to widen the perspective and have a deeper understanding and respect to diversities that exist in  culture, religion, norms, and practices, and most especially to learn everything what is related in the teaching field. Sea Teacher Project is to reach, teach and connect with people not just in our country but to our destination- Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

OUTCOMES OF PRACTICUM

A month in Indonesia really flies so fast. In this practicum, I did my practice teaching in Kinderstation Junior High School as my great opportunity to teach outside the country. I was able to develop my teaching skills, strategies and methods that I could implement it when we were in the field. I also learned and embraced the new things, the culture, educational system, their language and lastly, I already built my confidence speaking in English in front of my students. I’m able to build my social interaction dealing with different people. It is an edge for me to see other things I never I cannot be seen. I built bridges to those Indonesian people and establish a good relationship with my students Sea Teacher colleagues.

THE CHALLENGES OF PRACTICUM

Being a part of the said practicum, I keep myself ready because there will be a pile of works to be done because I still have to complete our subject requirements left in the Philippines. Finishing and finalizing our blog is definitely I love to do but the really problem is that I don’t have enough time to do it. In working my blog, my coordinator gave us a guide questions given by the SEAMEO what will be the content of our blog.

During the practicum, sometimes there is a language barrier where not all the people cannot speak in English. That's why i learn somehow a simple Bahasa language so that I can communicate with the people around me even I'm not totally good at it.

   OVERALL IMPRESSION

The SEA TEACHER Project is a great opportunity to the students who are deserving to be in this program. Students who are willing to take part, to gain experiences in the field of teaching, to boost their confidence, widen their knowledge, and most especially can gain family and friends.

SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE IMPROVEMENT

One month experience is so short. I suggest that it could be longer than a month; the longer exposure you have, the more knowledge you gain, the more well-rounded you are.
